The Italian Car

The Italian Car

The Ferrari 250 GTO model, the child of races, illustrated the political capability of Enzo Ferrari, who wanted to radiate his company’s colors across the newly established world championship of sports cars.

Ferrari succeeded in getting approval for the GTO (Gran Tourismo Omologato) based on the produced 250 GT SWB model, of which production met the quantity required, i.e. more than one hundred pieces. The new Ferrari had almost nothing in common with the 250 GT but the Federation turned a blind eye. Giotto Bizarrini designed excellent lines and the body was created based on tests carried out in an aerodynamic tunnel in Pisa. In this way, the GTO gained an astonishing aerodynamic efficiency, and the excellent twelve-cylinder V-engine with 2958 horses inherited from the Testa Rossa model, could accelerate over 250 km/h (155 mph). Between 1962 and 1964, just thirty-nine were produced and this new weapon of the Scuderio Ferrari brought them three world victories, thanks to which the GTO 250 would become the bearer of the Ferrari legend and today, it is still an inestimable jewel.

Three years after incorporation, Ferruccio Lamborghini attacked Ferrari’s territory with its beautiful Miura. Gandhini and Dallary designed the model who selected the best for the car, e.g. the central location of the engine, which was the solution reserved for racing cars in those times. The twelve-cylinder V-engine with a sharp sound provided stunning power at those times when it took 6.5 seconds only to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (0 – 62 mph) Lamborghini, the rich industrialist specialized in tractor production, retaliated with its Miura, produced between 1966 and 1971 in 763 pieces!
