One of Cyprus’ most popular destinations, Larnaca is a relaxed resort with its wide seafront promenade of palm trees and excellent tourist infrastructure. It also boasts a distinguished history, dating back to Mycenaean, Greek and Phoenician occupation, and apparently includes Saint Lazarus as a former resident. Today however, it’s heavily populated with international tourists.
Most people come for the beach and sunshine, and indeed there is plenty of both along the sea front - characterized by modern resorts, restaurants, bars and plenty of evening entertainment.
The town’s 17th century fort houses the Larnaca Medieval museum, nearby are the Pierides Foundation and Archaeological museums. There’s also a good cultural center with modern entertainment.
Also of interest is the Salt Lake, out of town, and the Camel amusement park, if the kids are getting bored with the beach. Beside this idyllic lake is the tranquil Hala Sultan Tekke, built to honor the aunt of the Prophet Mohammed. Also on the outskirts of town is the 18th century aqueduct called Kamares.

Angeloktisti Church in Kiti has rare 6th century Byzantine mosaics. Stavrovouni, one of the oldest and most dramatically sited monasteries in Cyprus, is not far away. Lefkara village, famous for its lace and silver. A little further south, Choirokoitia village is the site of one of the word's most important Neolithic settlements.
