French Cars

French Cars

Although it is not easy to combine the efforts of the dream makers and the producers of cars for the general public, all of the existing big French based
car makers, Citroen, Peugeot and Renault, have produced models throughout their history that have thrilled the masses.

For example, Renault produced the prestigious and eye catching 40CV model, +5 m long and equipped with a six-cylinder engine with 9,100 HP. The car is equipped with a servo-brake patented by Louis Renault. The Nervastella and Suprastella models followed this. However after World War II, the company with the rhombus in its logo went into production for the general public. In 1974, the company acquired Alpine and produced its first car with a 4CV chassis followed by the unforgettable A110 model.

The genius Andre’ Citroen, left his mark forever in automotive history. The cruisers called “Croisiere jaune” (Yellow Cruiser) and “Croisiere noire” (Black Cruiser) took their places along side the semi-belt cars of the Citroen “automobile caterpillar”.

Neither the C4 and C6 models from the thirties nor the fantastic Traction Avant model, which did not have the appearance of a prestigious car on the outside although certainly did have on the inside, can be omitted. The same applies for the unusual DS model introduced in 1955 or for the ingenious 2CV.

The ancient family of businessmen and Peugeot inventors became famous in the Franche-Comte’ department where it incorporated the Automobiles Peugeot company in 1896. Genuine fame arrived in the twenties with the Quadrilette model followed by
the 301, 601 and 402, in addition to the beautiful coupes based on the 504 and 406 models.
