French Car

French Car

France is a country from which almost all the producers that made excellent cars have since disappeared. The Delahaye make was one of those. The T150-C-SS model, nicknamed the “drop of water”, could reach +20 km/h (12 mph) because of the profile of its body, which bears the sign of Figoni & Falaschi.

Delahaye cars were modern and their production quality still has a great reputation. The particularly amazing 135 model and its individual versions were the swan songs of the producer from the Gallic Cock country is loved by all car lovers and was produced in many versions and with a different chassis. Also there was Delage, established in 1905, an engaged in the production of sports and luxury models. The image of the fantastic quality of this Paris based producer was enhanced by victory in the 500 mile race in Indianapolis and even today, the D6 and D8 models are regarded as one of the master work of automotive history. Delage cars were not just luxury sedans but great racing cars as well. The Delage and Delahaye, which were swallowed up by Hotchkiss, eventually disappeared in 1955.

The elitists disparaged two further particularly prestigious makes as well. Firstly, the Bucciali Company, named after two brothers who were not afraid of excess. The TAV models, which were unbelievably sophisticated at that time, and especially the extraordinary Bucciali TAV12, offered a front-axle drive, twelve-cylinder V-engine and astonishing shapes. Only two cars of this model were ever produced! The more famous Talbot-Lago produced one of the most prestigious sports cars in French automotive industry with frequently breathtaking shapes. In 1950, the make won the 24-hour Le Mans race but disappeared six years later. The Facel Vega make also had an admirable history for just ten years from 1954 to 1964. Jan Daninos, the industrialist, engineer, designer and ingenious inventor wished only for the best for his large luxury Gran turismo cars.
