General Motors Dream of Greatness

General Motors Dream of Greatness

General Motors, which celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2008 and now faces financial problems while being threatened by Toyota for the position of the best world producer, has produced the most beautiful cars of the American dream.

The group that already owned the Buick and Oldsmobile bought the Oakland production company in 1909 from which the Pontiac was later made. The GM group also owned the Cadillac under its motto: “Our creed is excellence, our rule is precision.” The growing company also acquired Chevrolet in 1917 as well. Higher category cars such as the Cadillac were permanent competition to the Lincolns by Ford.

Undoubtedly, the largest of these was the Eldorado Convertible. With its length of 610 cm (20 ft), two tons of metal sheet and chrome, big wings and the 35 liters of fuel required for 100 kilometers (62 miles) by its whopping eight-cylinder 6.3 liters V-engine volume hidden under a hood as “Big as Texas” the Cadillac 59 Eldorado was the pinnacle of the American way of life.

The Brougham version has a special position with the Cadillac Eldorado family. It was a dream car, which was the name of cars reserved for the elite lovers of excellent cars. It had a distinctive design inspired from airplane designers. The Brougham was shorter than the classic Eldorado and the missing B-pillar in the car interior was immediately eye-catching.

Another model admired by fans of beautiful American cars was naturally the Chevrolet Corvette, which still revives the flame of its fame thanks to its never-ending new cars. The Buick Roadmaster 1951 was another story, which became the symbol of the luxury convertible resembling a yacht and able to deliver great power.

Chevrolet owned by General Motors from 1919, built the first sports car by Corvette. Another innovation of Corvette was the fiberglass body, which made it very light. The Corvette Sting Ray, launched in 1963, was the era of brave style. The Corvette in the Fastback coupe version presented a very interesting line.

In 1946, the Buick Roadmaster was promoted among high-end cars. Its noble design was a miracle, especially in the convertible version, which remained one of the “must” of the make.

The Pontiac GTO left its traces as well. It was produced despite the company ban on producing high-power cars, was warmly welcomed by its well experienced and contained an eight-cylinder V8 engine packed with horsepower. It remained available for seven years from 1964 to 1971!
