Bugatti Automobile

Bugatti Automobile at its peak

In 1913, the young Ettore Bugatti came up with an idea for creating an unbeatable car. It had to be bigger and lighter than Rolls and run silently. All he dreamed came true thirteen years later when the first Royale was launched!

When the Type41 program was launched in 1926, the Bugatti legend was born at the same time. An extraordinary car, produced in six copies, was the reality of Ettore Bugatti’s dream, which was the production of a car worthy only of princes and kings.

It is a paradox; neither the prince nor a king ever owned such a car. The coupe was introduced at the Paris Auto Show in 1928 and was offered at a price of 697,000 francs, at a time when a teacher hardly earned 1,000 francs per month. Of the model line, which covered some very different cars (depending on which body the producer used in the production), only three were sold. With the help of his son Jean, Bugatti made more wondrous cars, such as the Type 35 and 37, which contributed to the make’s fame with 10,000 victories and 37 records! After Ettore’s death and the premature death of Jean, the make was abandoned and ceased to exist in the nineteen-fifties.

The revival of the make dates back to 1987 thanks to Arioli, the Italian industrialist who produced the EB110 with a twelve-cylinder V-engine Diablo type of 3.5L, 560 HP turbocharged with four turbochargers, which several years later was bought by Volkswagen-Audi. The factory return to its historical site in Alsace in Molsheim and in the following months, the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 was launched. With its sixteen cylinders, 1,001 HP and a sales price of 1,196,000 euros, the Veyron was undoubtedly a worthy successor to the Royale!
